FIXTURE CARD 2025
There is a slight error with two of the telephone numbers on the fixture card, this was as a result of shrinking the table down to fit the box the last number was lost. So Percy Hickman number should read 07868 777698 and Linda Boyd number should read 07799 471473. Apologies for the error.
OUTDOOR CLUB COMPETITIONS 2025: The outdoor competitions are now up on the notice board and on the competition page within the members area.
GALA DAY
Good morning all, our gala day on Saturday 30th August is fast approaching, and with all events of this nature, the off green matters are what we need to get right to ensure a smooth day will be had by all.
This week I will be putting up some charts in the club to get volunteers for tasks that you feel comfortable doing.
Things like bar, helping in kitchen, general help etc… Now you don’t have to commit for the whole day, even if you can only give an hour or two every little helps.
Anyone who can bake a cake or two before the day as well, these would be greatly appreciated.
Every little offer of help will make the day enjoyable as well as successful.
This is a massive opportunity to showcase our fantastic club, and help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Dave Freeman
DRESS CODE ON THE GREEN
To All Members
It has been brought to the attention of the Outdoor Committee that there are members who are not adhering to the dress code whilst on the green, for home and away matches, whilst representing Chipping Norton Bowls Club. Whilst playing for the club you are an ambassador for Chipping Norton Bowls Club and standard of dress is required.
This year fixture card clearly states what is required:
DRESS & FOOTWEAR CODE ON THE GREEN Club colours are club shirt and blue trousers/skirt. Casual wear can be worn for roll ups. Club fixtures the correct clothing is to be worn, no jogging bottoms or cargo trousers. The correct footwear must be worn on the green at all times i.e. bowls shoes. Flat soled trainers that are worn in public areas must not be worn on the green due to cross contamination of garden diseases and other toxic liquids.
The committee unanimously voted that in future any member who turns up improperly dressed for a club friendly; club team competition, club and County competitions will not be selected for any future fixtures until they can show that they will wear the correct dress on the green. Casual wear can still be worn for roll-ups. Navy blue trousers are so cheap and available at many stores in Oxfordshire starting around £12. They are easier to get than white trousers and much cheaper.
Footwear; it’s not acceptable to come from home in footwear and go straight on the green without changing into your bowling shoes. The reason for this is that walking in public areas you can easily step in fluids without knowing and transfer it to the green. Vehicle fluids and garden chemicals do not do the green any good. It costs a great deal of your money to maintain the green and the many hours the Greenkeepers put in to make it to one of the best greens in Oxfordshire. This can be undone for sake of not changing into a pair of bowling shoes. Yes bowling shoes are expensive however if you search around a pair of flat sole shoes with no tread are available at fraction of the price of bespoke bowling shoes. You must then keep these shoes just for the bowling green.
The same policy will be applied; any person wearing incorrect footwear on the green will be not be selected for club games and club team competitions until they can show they have the correct or appropriate footwear.
The committee did not want to enforce this rule but they were left with no other option as there are some members who do not comply with the club requirements whilst representing Chipping Norton Bowls Club.
I’m willing to have a private discussion with any member if they would like to discuss the Committees ruling.
